HERITAGE ASSET PROTECTION DURING SENSITIVE ROAD REHABILITATION WORK
The Project
2021 saw severe weather impacts on the UNESCO World Heritage Site – The Jenolan Caves. The Roadways (Jenolan Caves Road at Hampton, 2 Mile & 5 Mile) were faced with landslips, broken rails and even floods. Safety concerned prompted closing access to these roads, and repair works were undertaken in the years after. McIlwain Civil Engineering engaged UBY Group to deliver vibration monitoring services at the Jenolan Caves Heritage Hotel during drilling, excavation and soil nailing works associated with the 2 Mile Hill project. Given the sensitive heritage environment, reliable monitoring and responsive coordination were critical to ensuring construction activities could proceed safely and compliantly.
